| dc.description | Padayani is a ritualistic art form performed in Kerala. It is an integration of various art forms such as kolams (masks and headgears), music, dance and drama for the worship of Goddess Kali. The art form is believed to have come into existence during Pre-Dravidian times, to illustrate the relationship between man and nature. This study focuses on studying various components of Padayani and the role that these components like kolams (masks and headgears), music and dance play in the lives of the people living in Kadammanitta. Further, the thematic elements like the relationship of the performers with the spectators, the influence of the socio-economic status and gender of performers on Padayani and its natural and therapeutic effects are explored.
