Silambam is a martial art that brings together culture, history and society. It is a Tamilian martial art that symbolizes celebration, struggle and recreation. This report focuses how Silambam as a martial art evolved from the British period to the present timewith an emphasis on the changes that have occurred. From the details and technicalities to the analysis, the report achieves objectives that include tracing the origin of Silambam, the changes implemented in the techniques, weapons and attire used by the practitioners, socio-economic factors and variations of how Silambam is practiced in different places.
