The Ayappan Theeyattu is a ritual practice in the temples dedicated to Lord Ayappa in Kerala. This art form is considered to be one of the oldest temple art forms in Kerala, and has been promoted and passed down through generations of Thiyadi Nambiars. The present study four aims to analyse the Ayyappan Theeyattu with respect to its mythical origins and whether myths or rituals came first. It also studies the change in spatial relationships and the commercialization of the ritual which has resulted in some changes in the Theeyattu.
