Ganjappa: the playing cards of Odisha

Description

Ganjappa is a cards game, where the cards are usually rectangular and circular in shape and are traditionally hand painted by artisans. The ganjappa cards originated from Persia and then become common in India under the Mughal emperors in the 16th century. The present study revolves around understanding the evolution of the ganjappa cards and also the difference between these cards and the normal contemporary cards that are most commonly played today.
